Creative Virality

The player landed on the soft grass, a smile etched upon his face.

It had been a long time since he booted up this server, time and responsibilities had left him unable to play.

But now he had all weekend to craft like he used to.

All on creative mode of course.

No Zombies.

No Creepers.

No damn dying and losing half his inventory after hours on end.

Just an endless sandbox and his imagination to craft.

He took it slow at first, crafting the basics.

A house.

Armor, and weapons.

Even some rudimentary sculptures.

He was so focused on creating he didn’t even notice when it became night.

The zombies were annoying at first but they couldn’t do any damage.

He was immortal after all, right? He could just tank their blows.

The first few were fine, they went down easy, their blows bouncing off his armor.

But then one smacked him and actually did damage.

A strange variant he’d never seen before. A zombie of pure darkness.

One with each step seemed to corrupt the very land it stood.

He slew it easily but another came, and another.

They overwhelmed him.

As he died in creative mode.

The user was dumbfounded for a moment, was this a new feature? A halloween thing to make the game scarier?

A quick google search saw nothing so he dismissed it as a mere glitch and respawned.

But it happened again.

And again.

And again.

He was furious. Sure he expected to die normally but creative mode was supposed to be special.

He didn’t fall into the void.

He didn’t command kill.

It shouldn’t be happening. This damn glitch was ruining his one weekend of fun.

He was furious, his reason telling him to just shut the damn thing down and be done with it.

No. Fuck that. Fuck his reason.

He wanted to play and some damn glitch wasn’t going to stop him.

It’s a shame that in his fury, he didn’t notice that every respawn, the world was changing.

Growing a little darker.

A little more corrupted and black.

It wasn’t just the zombies.

It was the pigs.

The trees.

The very ground he stood.

But when he respawned this time, he noticed.

The ground was thick and murky, every step squelched.

The hits into the blocks didn’t come with a thud but a scream.

As even the sky seemed blacker then even the heart of the Nether.

He refused to let this glitch bother him as he continued on.

So focused in on his gaming, he didn’t feel the presence behind him.

He didn’t feel the hand grasp him until it was too late.

As he blacked out.

When he opened his eyes, he wasn’t at his room at his computer.

He was in a black void, thin streams of light the only thing that illuminated the sky.

As he stared into the void, trapped within a glitch his reason screamed at him to run from.

As something leered down through the screen at him, a malevolent dark grin.

He wanted to play so badly and now the Virus would ensure.

He could play for eternity.
